Benefits of Main Ingredients

The main ingredients in this teriyaki chicken dish provide more than just deliciousness—they also offer nutritional benefits. Chicken is a lean source of protein, which is essential for muscle growth and repair. It also provides important vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B6 and niacin. Soy sauce, a key component of the teriyaki sauce, is a fermented product that contains beneficial antioxidants and amino acids. Additionally, it adds a rich, savory flavor to the dish. The use of ginger and garlic in the marinade contributes to their potential anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties

Ingredients

To create this flavorful Japanese teriyaki chicken, gather the following ingredients:

• 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
• 2 tablespoons sake (Japanese rice wine)
• 2 tablespoons brown sugar
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
• 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
• Sliced green onions (for garnish)

Directions:

• In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the teriyaki sauce.

• Place the chicken breasts in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour half of the teriyaki sauce over them. Reserve the remaining sauce for later use. Ensure the chicken is well coated and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for maximum flavor.

• Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Brush the grates with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.

• Remove the chicken breasts from the marinade and discard any excess sauce. Grill the chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side or until cooked through, basting with the reserved teriyaki sauce during the last few minutes of grilling.

• Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into strips.

• Garnish the teriyaki chicken with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

• Serve the teriyaki chicken hot with steamed rice and your choice of vegetables, such as steamed broccoli or stir-fried bok choy.

Notes:

• If you don't have a grill, you can also cook the chicken in a skillet or bake it in the oven until cooked through.

• Adjust the sweetness of the teriyaki sauce by adding more or less brown sugar according to your taste preference.

• Feel free to add a splash of freshly squeezed lemon juice to the teriyaki sauce for a tangy twist.

• This recipe can be easily doubled or scaled down depending on the number of servings needed.
